2012 Aces

Payne McLeod scored his first ace on Oct. 6 while playing a practice round for the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic in South Bend, Indiana. He hit a 5-iron on the 210-yard 14th hole at Warren Golf Course.


Hal Griffin scored his second career-hole-in-one at PPCC on Oct. 5. A 9-iron on the 140-yard fourth hole (back nine) was the perfect shot. It hit about 4 feet past the cup and spun back into the cup. Playing partners in the Friday afternoon choose-up were Steve Williams, Robert Costner, Steve Manley and Charlie Thomas.

Hal’s first ace came on the same hole in 1984 in a foursome with Pat Griffin, Charlie Scott and Sherman Hoggard.


Brad Green, a 13-year-old rising eighth grader at Reidsville Middle School, scored his first hole-in-one while playing at Pennrose Park Country Club on June 20.


Green used a 6-iron for the 123-yard shot on the seventh hole. Witnesses were Payne McLeod, Aubrey O’Brian, Broc Howerton, Taylor Trent and David Einstein.

Larry Barefoot scored a hole-in-one while golfing at Jamestown Park Thursday, April 12.

Barefoot used an 8-iron on the 112-yard No. 8 hole. His playing partners were John Pearson, Raeford Heath and Joe Brenner. It was his second career ace, other coming at PPCC No. 4.

Alex Marrs scored the first ace of the year at Pennrose Park Country Club on Saturday, March 10.

Marrs, a member of the football team at North Carolina where he is a long snapper, was right on target with his shot on the 214-yard seventh hole. He used a 4-iron.

His first career ace was witnessed by Doug Marrs, Tony Santoro and Luke Eure.
